Residential and commercial construction are cornerstones of the San Diego economy. On average, the total value of local residential construction is estimated to be approximately $3 billion dollars. This is in addition to the revenue generated by development impact and permit fees which total more than what is returned to San Diego in sales tax revenue. And because the building industry is a goods-producing industry, every job created in construction generates two jobs somewhere else in the economy.
