The Wait Continues as Counting Goes On

By Matt Adams
Voters took to the polls three weeks ago and since that time the Registrar of Voters Office has been tallying up more than 500,000 last minute and provisional ballots. With more than 72,000 ballots left and some North County races separated by less than 2%, the daily updates are foremost on the mind of anxious political hopefuls.

Vista Councilmember John Aguilera has seen his lead over Corinna Contreras narrow to just 44 votes. While not as close, the Carlsbad City Council races remain tight as Barbara Hamilton’s lead over Tracy Carmichael in District 1 growing to 199 votes. In District 2, Priya Bhat-Patel has seen her lead expand to 243 over Corrine Busta. The 77th Assembly District race between incumbent Brian Maienschein and challenger Sunday Gover has also narrowed with less than a percentage point separating the two. The counting continues with another update scheduled for later today. The ROV has until Thursday, December 6th to finishing counting and certify the election.
