Planning Commission Supports Coalition Inclusionary Reforms

By Matt Adams
The San Diego planning commission voted in favor of a list of recommendations offered by a broad business coalition to incorporate into the city’s update of its Inclusionary Housing ordinance. The unanimous vote came after a three hour hearing on the policy intended to address the housing crisis. The coalition which includes the BIA, the Chamber of Commerce, NIAOP and others believe the current proposal will negativity impact housing production and actually result in exacerbating the housing crisis. The eight recommendations offered by the Coalition are intended to mitigate some of the negative impacts of the Inclusionary program and calls on the city to provide more offsets and production incentives to increase supply. The city Council is expected to take up the proposal when it meets on July 30.
