Mission Valley Community Plan Update Clears Key Committee
By Matt Adams
The San Diego Land Use and Housing Committee voted to approve the proposed update to the Mission Valley Community Plan. The late afternoon vote followed testimony from the BIA and others who have been following the plan update for several years. Housing in close proximity to jobs is the central focus of the Mission Valley proposal which has the potential to produce thousands of square feet of office and retail space along with thousands of new homes. Mission Valley spans over 3,200 acres that includes over 11,000 residential homes. The update calls for an additional 27,900 units at buildout above the current plan representing a 248% increase in housing capacity. The unanimous decision sends the plan to the full city council for a final vote in early August.
