Encinitas Considering New EV Charging Regulations

By Mike McSweeney
The City of Encinitas is considering changes to the EV Charging Station regulations in the next month or so. One and two family dwellings must include a dedicated 40 amp branch circuit for an EV charging station. One potential change exceeds the building code requirement on multi-family dwellings. The code requires 5% of the total number of parking spaces have an EV station. Encinitas is considering a 15% requirement. There are exceptions which can be made on a case by case basis by the building official. To see the City’s proposed FAQ sheet click here.
